New doors
Garage door installation and replacement
- Opening measured on site
- Headroom and side room checked
- Opener matched to the door

Replacing the door is the right call once repairs keep stacking up, panels are rusted or cracked, or you simply want the front of the house to look different. Garage door installation starts with a tape measure: width, height, headroom above the opening, side room for the tracks and depth into the garage. Those numbers decide which doors and track setups will actually fit before anyone talks styles.
Garage door replacement also touches the parts around it. Springs are sized to the new door's weight, tracks and rollers come new, and the bottom seal is fitted to your floor. If your existing opener is too weak or too old for the new door, we'll tell you. Sometimes a repair buys years and a new door can wait; we'll say so.

What a new door project includes
A new door is only as good as the hardware and fit behind it. Each install covers the following, start to finish.
Measuring and planning
Opening size, headroom, backroom and side clearance are recorded, along with anything in the way: ductwork, lights, storage racks or a low beam common in older North Jersey garages.
Removal of the old door
The existing springs are de-tensioned safely, then the old sections, tracks and hardware are taken down so the new door goes onto a clean opening.
Installation and balancing
New sections, tracks, rollers, springs and cables are installed, and the door is balanced so it lifts smoothly by hand before any opener is reconnected.
Opener pairing and seals
The opener is reconnected or replaced, travel and force are set, and weather stripping is fitted along the bottom and sides to block drafts and water.
Door styles we install
Steel and insulated steel
Steel is the workhorse: durable, low-maintenance and available in raised-panel, flush or ribbed designs. Insulated versions add a foam core that helps with drafts, noise and the cold of a North Jersey January, especially for attached garages.
Carriage-style and wood-look
Carriage doors mimic old swing-out carriage-house doors but roll up like any sectional. Wood-look finishes give the warmth of cedar or walnut tones on a steel or composite door that holds up to salt and moisture better than real wood.
Full-view glass and aluminum
Aluminum frames with large glass or frosted panels suit modern homes and let daylight into the garage. They're lighter and less insulated, so they work best where the garage isn't heated.
Signs it's time for a new door
A replacement starts to make sense when you notice any of these.
- Repeated repairs in a short spanParts are failing one after another on an aging door.
- Rust holes along the bottom panelSalt and standing water have eaten through the steel.
- Cold garage in winterSingle-layer door with no insulation and gaps around the edges.
- Dented or bowed sectionsDamage from a car bump that keeps the door from sealing or traveling straight.
- Parts no longer availableOlder or discontinued models where matching panels can't be found.
Safety first. Taking down an old door is the most dangerous step of a replacement, because the springs are still loaded until someone releases them correctly. Please don't start removing panels or brackets ahead of the install to save time. Leave the old door intact and let the crew de-tension it first.
Why choose Carter for a new door
Measured before you choose
We don't suggest a style until the opening has been measured. That way every option you see will actually fit your garage.
Matching gate work available
Want the gate to look right next to the new door? We install and repair driveway gates, so both can be planned together.
Clear options, your decision
You get a plain comparison of materials, insulation and styles for your house. No pressure toward the most expensive door.
Hardware sized to the door
Springs, cables and rollers are chosen for the new door's actual weight, which keeps it balanced and easy on the opener.
